Our Mission and Vision Statements

Our Mission

  • To make the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department a top-notch learning centre that nurture the spirit of research, innovation idea development, and entrepreneurship amongst academia, industry and research organizations.

  • Our Vision

"To produce competent and technically sound Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate capable of proffering solutions to challenges related to society, environment and industries using innovation and emerging technologies."

Welcome to Department of Civil and Construction Engineering

Civil Engineering is the second – oldest engineering discipline, preceded only by military engineering. It is perhaps the broadest of the engineering disciplines. It deals with the planning, design, construction and management of buildings, roads, bridges, dams, canals, rail-roads, airports, water – supply and wastewater systems, harbours, aqueducts, tunnels, and other engineered infrastructures. The major sub – divisions of Civil Engineering include

  • Structural Engineering,
  • Highway and Traffic Engineering,
  • Transportation Engineering,
  • Geotechnical Engineering,
  • Water Resources and Environmental Engineering,
  • Construction Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering and Irrigation Engineering. Civil and Construction Engineering Department, in the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu (LASUSTECH), has all the necessary academic personnel and expertise to operate fully, a Civil and Construction Engineering programme, in tandem with the global state of practice of the profession.

    Career Opportunities

Civil Engineers have several employment opportunities in the public and private sectors of the national economy. These include Federal and State Government Establishments, Ministry of Lands and Housing, Maintenance Agencies and River Basin Development Authorities. Opportunities in the private sector include consulting (design) firms, construction companies, oil exploration, exploitation and servicing companies

  • PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy to this programme is in consonance with the national goals and objectives of industrialization and self–reliance. The undergraduates in Civil Engineering and Construction programme is geared towards early broad-based training in general engineering and technology; the development of a thorough engineering practice after training, practical application of Civil Engineering in meeting the basic human needs, and close association of the programme with engineering industries in the country.

Graduates of the Civil Engineering and Construction programme should have acquired high academic standards with adequate practical background to be of immediate value to industry and the nation in general. The programme is structured in such away that students will have the opportunity to take courses that will provide a basic understanding of all areas of civil engineering practice, while they can concentrate on any of the following options in the final year: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering and Construction Engineering.

    OBJECTIVE

The objectives of the programme are to adopt the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in:

    • develop in the students the ability to use their accumulated technical knowledge, sense of analysis, and creative design abilities, in various ways that can contribute to the development of a more satisfying life and environment for the country and for all mankind.
    • produce leaders, both in creativity and adaptability ,in the planning, design, evaluation, and analysis of technological innovation for improving the quality of the environment, and of life generally, in response to the ever – changing goals and needs of the Nigerian society.
    • produce graduates that have entrepreneurial skills for self – employment in the Civil and Construction Engineering profession; and
    • lay the foundation on which students can proceed to further studies in specialized aspects of Civil and Construction Engineering practice or multi-disciplinary areas involving Civil and Construction Engineering.
